Press release about Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Mansour Award 2024
On the first of last June, the Arab Publishers` Association launched the sixth session of the Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Mansour Award, for the year 2024, in the fields of novel and story collection, under the title "Palestine is Our Story", and in conjunction with the launch of the Kuwait International Book Fair, and in a ceremony sponsored by His Excellency the Minister of Information and Culture, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdul Rahman Al-Mutairi, and with the participation of a constellation of publishers, writers and intellectuals, led by the sponsor of the award, founder of Dar "That Al-Salasil", Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Mansour, and in the presence of the President of the Arab Publishers` Association, Mr. Mohamed Rashad, and Professor Haitham Hafez, Chairman of the Professional Development Committee, Dr. Khalifa Rabah, Director of the Kuwait International Book Fair, Dr. Haitham Haj Ali, Chairman of the Award Jury, along with a large number of directors of Arab Book Fairs.
The results of the jury resulted in Dar Al-Shorouk Jordan, Palestine winning the Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Mansour Award for the Arab Publisher, for the novel "Ashkenazi Text" by Aref Farouk, where the head of the house was crowned with a commemorative shield, a certificate of appreciation and an amount of 20,000 $.
The jury of the sixth session, chaired by Dr. Haitham Hajj Ali, included a group of critics known for their impartiality and proficiency, and spared no effort in examination, reading and evaluation, in order to prepare the short list announced last October, and the topic chosen for this session was "Palestine is our story" in response to what Arab libraries lack for novels of this kind, and thus the participations took a clear momentum and competition, before the selection decision, which was decisive and happy at the same time, and the short list came as follows:
Al-Ahlia for Publishing and Distribution: "Fragile Passages", novel by Atef Abu Seif, Jordan.
- Al Mutawaset Publications: "The Seventh Sky of Jerusalem", novel by Osama Al-Aissa, Italy.
- Dar Al-Shorouk for Publishing and Distribution: "Ashkenazi Text", novel by Aref Farouk Al-Husseini, Jordan.
- Dar El Hoda for Publishing and Distribution: "The Biography of the Snake", novel by Azzedine Mihoubi, Algeria.
The President of the Arab Publishers` Association, Mr. Mohamed Rashad, delivered his speech during the ceremony, praising the role of the State of Kuwait and its support for Arab culture, and expressed his happiness with this award, thanking its main sponsor, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Mansour, and congratulating Dar Al-Shorouk for winning this award.
Mr. Haitham Hafez, Chairman of the Professional Development Committee, expressed the importance of this award for the development of the publishing industry in the Arab world, indicating that it is a motivational means for publishers, and also an opportunity to enrich the Arab library by displaying the tools that are contested through the topics it raises, and explained that the award has become a great credibility among publishers, and a wide echo in the Arab world.
The Patron of the Award, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Mansour, gave a speech in which he expressed his happiness with the continuity and success of the Award, considering that it constitutes an important incentive for the Arab publisher and the advancement of the publishing industry.
It is worth mentioning that this award was announced in July 2019, as the first award dedicated to members of Arab publishers, aimed at advancing the Arab publishing industry and encouraging publishers to adhere to intellectual property laws and the quality of publications, and it is growing and rising due to Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Mansour's blessing for this award, and the support of the Arab Publishers` Association.
